Much of what you will read on this blog will simply chronicle my weekly struggle to establish a Black Weekly Newspaper in rural East Alabama and West Georgia. In July of 2005, with the help of several friends and family, who now comprise our Board of Directors, The People’s Voice African American Weekly News was launched. Until that time, African-Americans in the rural communities of East Alabama and West Georgia had no real voice. With the advent of The People’s Voice, we have opened new doors for African American self-expression. But, it hasn’t been easy.
It has been a constant struggle against old die-hard attitudes of racist whites, and illiterate blacks who still don’t understand what it’s really going to take to free black America.
Here you will have an opportunity to read my reactions and reasonings that have been published from week to week, in response to some of the asanine feedback received from our newspaper.
I was ever so surprised at the reaction we received – not only from whites (which was not soooooo surprising), but from our own people, in response to our publication of a black weekly newspaper.
While, things are getting better from week to week. Boy, is it EVER a struggle! We’re about 25 years behind. Yet, we journey on…
